The Sua Pygmies are an offshoot branch of the Efe Pygmies,, with differing tribal norms. They are mainly located on the western edge of the Ituri forest, with a significant of their population in Uganda. Their patrons are the Budu/Barbudo people.
A common way for them to earn money is through tourism, though this had been disturbed during a war between the Uganda army and Uganda's People Defense force. They have been forced off their native land at least two times due the establishment of the Virunga National Park. The new land they live on is more difficult for them, and since they have a dependency on locals and tourists, poverty has struck hard, including a massive AID's outbreak. As a result, over 50% of the Sua Pygmies are fifteen or under, many of them orphaned. |
